Join Catie Witt, CMES MA student, for a perusal of the Oriental Institute's Egyptian headrests and related objects on display, and learn how to sleep like an Egyptian. We will explore conceptions of daily life and death in ancient Egypt and how these enigmatic objects would have supported their owners in this world and the next. In addition, headrest imagery and amulets' magical implications for rising in the afterlife will be discussed, in order to provide a well-rounded and engaging study of the symbolic significance of headrests for ancient Egyptians. Explore the ancient world with a 45-minute gallery talk in the Oriental Institute Museum. Travel to a time and place beyond the University to learn about archaeological discoveries, unlock the secrets of civilization, and gain a greater appreciation of our ancestors. Registration is not required.
